H.O.P.E RECONNECT - ON Tonlé Sap and around

Tonlé Sap · 2007

Floating villages. Dirt roads. Market stalls. Rice paddies at sunset. School huts on stilts. I spent days moving between the lake and the villages that ring it — no fixers, no schedule, just a camera and whoever would share a moment.

I photographed children — and also the adults around them. Mothers with babies on their hips. Fathers mending nets. Grandparents on temple steps. Teachers at village chalkboards. Tuk-tuk drivers who became my guides. Market vendors who laughed at my Khmer.

The children from these photographs are now in their mid-twenties to early thirties. Some of the adults are still here, still in the same villages, still on the same roads. Sometimes it's easier to recognise an adult than a child who has grown up. Sometimes an adult will remember a child I photographed — a cousin, a neighbour, a classmate.

If you recognise anyone — a face, a village, a fishing boat, a market, a corner of a road — please fill out the form below. Adults are as welcome to come forward as the children themselves. Every memory is a thread.
